AICUP Schools Select 3ROX, PSC for Internet Access, Computing, Storage

A group of eight western Pennsylvania Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Pennsylvania (AICUP) member-institutions have selected the Three Rivers Optical Exchange (3ROX) as their commodity Internet provider and regional network administrator and the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC) for computing and storage resources. This new relationship will provide improved Internet access to these AICUP member institutions as well as access to a host of high performance computing resources through PSC.

Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center Brings New Technology to Regional Users

Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center (PSC) has upgraded the Three Rivers Optical Exchange (3ROX) Internet2 connection to 100 gigabits per second (GE, or gigabit Ethernet). The new connection puts 3ROX at the leading edge of academically based networks, offering users speeds 10 times those of the highest-bandwidth academic and industrial connections in the region. The new connection is about 5,000 times faster than typical home broadband Internet.

3ROX Upgrade Improves Network Reliability

The Three Rivers Optical Exchange (3ROX) high-speed academic network has improved its reliability by upgrading its connection to Cogent. The connection with the commodity network provider has increased from 1 to 2 Gigabits per second (Gbs).
